Twelve Days of Book Giving
It was exciting to meet the parent who wanted to gift her son of a book for each of the twelve days before Christmas. She said "he is a reader and I want to encourage that." The books, ordered from Scholastic Book Club flyers, were delivered to school yesterday and the parent picked them up today. What a nice surprise for the lucky Rolland-Warner student.

Book Club and the Newbery Award
Zemmer Book Club and Rolland-Warner Book Club wrote letters this week to members of the Newbery Award Committee, and asked questions about the process for choosing the winner. The seventh and eighth grade students look forward to getting a response to their questions. Students reviewed the list of past winners and discussed theme, style, character and plot development of When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, 2010 Newbery Award winner. In January, students will view the live video of the presentation of awards made at the Annual Conference of the American Library Association, that will be held in San Diego, California.

This week in the middle school media centers
Thank you, students, staff, and parents, for supporting your libraries by making purchases at the Scholastic Book Fairs hosted in your middle school media centers this week. Profits from your purchases will be used to buy books and DVDs, as well as contest prizes for activities planned in the media centers and other library materials. I enjoyed meeting parents at the Parent Teacher conferences in both media centers and hope you will continue to visit and make recommendations for the collection. I appreciate the help of parent volunteers who share the passion of reading and act as advocates for literacy. READ ON!
